Personal Statement
Education & Life: A Personal Statement
Tekken, a simple “beat ‘em up” game made in 1994 by Namco, was the first game I was attracted to when I was eight. Since its creation, the Tekken series has continued to grow. The creators of Tekken have continued to create games they know players will love and enjoy. Another favorite game of mine is Final Fantasy, which is a role-playing-game made by Square Enix in 1987. The Final Fantasy series has come a long way and its creators keep thinking of better games for their fans to play. Seeing these creators make powerful games for all to enjoy made me think that creating games for a living would be amazing, but I know it will take a lot of determination and patience.
As an aspiring game designer I have dreams of creating games that people will talk about for years. I know that making games is a process, physically, mentally, and financially. I dream of becoming a game designer because of the ideas I have for future games, and being in an environment that has the latest technology and working with people who are just as determined as I am. I want to experience what it feels like to be in a room full of game designers who are working towards the same goal as I am: to make a game that the players will appreciate. Knowing this, I want to work with students that have the same ideas as I do. I know I can make it with my determination and creativity, which is why I really want to see my positive qualities shine in this major and ultimately in my Capstone Project.
There is a lot of equipment in the gaming industry that may take time to learn to use. I want to know how to properly use this equipment so I can utilize my time management correctly. I want to learn how to make the consoles needed to play the games I create. There are also certain engines that games are created on. Tekken 6, the latest game made by Namco, is the first game to use the Octave Engine. This is the first simulation engine that can simulate the dynamics on the PlayStation 3. I also want to know how the game designers manage their time. In the gaming industry, time management is vital to getting work done on time.
Imagine creating a game that can sell in the millions. You can become well-known and become respected by your superiors, knowing you accomplished a great feat. Those who know you can actually say, “I know the person that made this game.”My dream is to work with either Namco or Square Enix and help create games for all the power players to enjoy. Through having game design as my major, I feel as though I’m half way there already.
